Jonker Nissan
The vehicles we now know as “Nissans” were first exported to Canada in 1966 as “Datsuns”. These vehicles were built in Japan, and Vancouver was the port of entry and also the national headquarters for the Canadian arm of Nissan Motor Company, who built Datsuns.
Langley was home to one of the first dealerships in the country selling the popular little Datsuns. The dealership opened in 1967. Originally named “Valley Datsun”, it was located on Fraser Highway across the street from the original Save On Foods store in Langley. It had a very small showroom and service operation.
In 1982 Nissan Motor Company dropped the Datsun name in Canada and re-branded their vehicles as Nissan, a name they used in other countries throughout the world. At that time Valley Datsun changed its name to Langley Nissan. A change of location was made to 20567 Langley Bypass, close to Glover Road.
In 1990 Langley Nissan was purchased by Karel and Karen Jonker. A new building was constructed at 19372 Langley Bypass to accommodate Langley’s growing customer base of Nissan owners. The service department now had 4 service bays. But our business continued to grow.
In 1996 a permanent site for a larger facility was found; it was right across the street and next to the Langley Honda dealership. The Honda dealership was part of this purchase, and in 1998 the names of the two dealerships were changed to Jonker Nissan and Jonker Honda.
We opened our newly constructed Jonker Nissan building on October 19, 1999. We went from a 7,500 sq ft. building to a 16,000 sq. ft. building with 11 service bays, a service drive-through and a 5 car showroom.
